ABOUT US
Onyeisi Care Foundation (OCF) is a youth-led nonprofit and nongovernmental organization that seeks to foster sustainable community development, systemic change and policy advocacy, and replicable models, best practices, and expertise that can contribute to global efforts in education, health, and overall community development.
The organization was founded in 2017 by Kenneth Ogbodo during his undergraduate studies at Ebonyi State University, Nigeria. It was formerly known as Beta Me Better Africa (BMBA) Initiative but was later rechristened and officially registered as Onyeisi Care Foundation on 23 May, 2022.
The focus areas of OCF’s mission are the SDGs 4 (Quality Education), 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), and 10 (Reduced Inequality). OCF seeks to achieve significant medium and long-term impacts in these areas through its initiatives. While the Street2School Project seeks to help less privileged out-of-school children, girls, women, and people living with disabilities in rural communities in Nigeria to get back to school for free; the WASH Project will increase their access to both quality education, improve their health and wellbeing by reducing waterborne diseases, promoting hygiene practices, and enhancing overall public health. On the other hand, the TechintheStreet will alleviate poverty through provision of vocational training and skills for sustainable income generation.
VISION: To become one of the leading providers of free, and easily accessible quality education; clean water and sanitation in Africa.
MISSION:
To eliminate all forms of barriers to the education of less privileged girls, out-of-school children, women, and people living with disabilities in underserved communities in Nigeria.
To provide clean water and sanitation for rural primary and secondary schools, and community centres in Nigeria.
To foster sustainable community development, systemic change and policy advocacy, and replicable models, best practices, and expertise that can contribute to global efforts in education, health, and overall community development.
OCF PROGRAMS:
• WASH Project: Seeks to provide clean water and proper sanitation for at least 500 rural primary and secondary schools, and community centres in Nigeria by 2030.
• Tech in the Street: A tech incubation scheme that provides free weekend classes for out-of-school children in Nigeria to teach them sustainable tech skills.
• Street2School Project: OCF provides bursaries, books, textbooks, school bags, uniforms, and shoes for less privileged children in Nursery, Primary, and Secondary education levels.
• Onyeisi Academy: This initiative enables beneficiaries resident in high-security risk communities in Nigeria to continue learning remotely.
• SMEs Support Grants: Poverty is a major cause of the out-of-school crisis in Nigeria, and as part of its sustainable plan, OCF provides business start-up grants to the parents/guardians of its beneficiaries to reduce the likelihood of children being withdrawn from school after its project cycle.
• Reintegration: This is the final stage of OCF’s project cycle, where beneficiaries who are deemed fit to continue their studies in physical classrooms are integrated into the school system.
GET INVOLVED
Are you passionate about clean water, sanitation and education for underprivileged children? Do you believe that every child deserves access to quality education, regardless of their background or financial status?
Join us on this journey to give every child in Nigeria the chance to reach their full potential. Together, we can change the world, one child at a time.
In Nigeria, over 18.5 million children are out-of school; 60% are girls. -UNICEF, 2022.
Diarrhoea is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among children in Nigeria. UNICEF reports that around 150,000 children under five die each year from diarrhoea-related illnesses in Nigeria.
A significant number of school children in rural communities do not have access to safe and clean drinking water, and proper sanitation, leading to increased health risks and potential absenteeism or complete dropout from school.
